hello

How's life for ya?

I just thought I'd ask.

I've started trying something new.  Something to do with the above picture; I've started making jewelry.
Okay, well, it only sort of has to do with the above picture.  I would never dream of making jewelry out of these plastic beads... not that they aren't beautiful.  They just belong to someone else.
Someone very short and stubby.
Someone who learned at a very young age how to overuse the word "mine".
Which brings me to the question,
"Where did she learn to use that word?"

It's a total conundrum for me because you would think that a child who hangs out all day with her momma would catch on to words that her mother actually uses.
Do I walk around pointing at things and saying, "mine"?
Some serious self evaluation will have to take place after I finish this post.

No, I would never dream of using your beads, little girl.
You use yours.
I'll use mine.

  1. This post cracked me up. :) I remember talking to adam in the stroller at the bank one day, calling myself "mommy." "Mommy likes taking walks with you." When the teller raised her eyebrow at me, I asked, "How else is he going to learn my name?" :)

  6. I like the picture! I am sooooo not crafty and am jealous of your jewelry making abilities. :)

For both of my little ones, "Mine" was one of their first words. Crazy how quickly they develop a sense of self and what they think is theirs!

  8. I love making jewelry, it's been a while but I'd really like to get back into it. My daughter has been asking for some "beans" of her own. When she's a bit older I'll get her some and maybe we can sit and work together.

  9. I think that "mine" business is tied up with them realising that they actually have their own self, separate from mommy! You have a very cute blog here! Visiting from SITS.

  10. My 2 oldest girls have this insane circular logic they use on each other; each one believes that she should be allowed to wear the other's clothing, shoes, and jewelry whenever she wants but should not have to ever lend her own things. "What's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine."
