NO MONSTERS HERE!

My son woke up one morning and told me that he had a dream about monsters.
The next night he wouldn't go near his room at bedtime.
I had NO IDEA what to do.

A friend at church suggested to post a sign on the door:
NO MONSTERS

And it worked!

Not only was he willing to go back to his own bedroom,
he also wanted to keep the door shut!

Here is the original sign:

He also thought it might be a good idea to put
a child lock on the door knob.
To keep the monsters out, of course.

The original sign tore and I decided to make a new one on the computer.  I thought this project was a fun idea so I made the image into a digital patchwork to print.
If you'd like a copy just click on the image below to print it.

And for those of you who'd like a coloring page version...

You can also download the image
so that you can resize it however you'd like.

One time when we were kids my youngest sister, Tilly, got frightened of imaginary monsters.
Becca made a label that looked similar to this one and taped it to a spray bottle.
She filled the bottle with water and said it was "scary spray"
and used to spray away any hidden creatures that might be lurking under her bed or in the closet.
It worked for Tilly!

Do you have any ideas of how to deal with imaginary monsters?

That is a very cute idea! I also like the spray bottle idea, you guys are so creative with the simplest things.

Really great no monsters allowed sign. And I love his solution to add the child lock knob. Becka was a genius even as a child to "invent" the scary spray. When I was young I wasn't as creative. I just hid under the covers, LOL.

Too cute. If only everything was that simple.

Stopping by from SITS to say hello.

Very good ideas. My 4 year old is afraid of witches (thanks to Snow White). One night I sat down and explained the difference between fiction and non-fiction books. I told her that she often picks fiction books which are made up stories with pretend characters. That seemed to work, for now.

Good idea!
My son sometimes complain that a dragon is living in his room and he can't sleep.
Maybe I should but a sign "No Dragons Here"?

Great idea. Wish I had thought of it when we had monsters in the boys' bedrooms!

We were kids standing around on the playground talking about 'things under the bed' when a friend told us her scarey story.

Every night when it was time to go to bed, she'd get to her bedroom door and make a running leap toward her bed. This was her way to escape the monster that lived under the bed.

One night she began her running leap, flew through the air and landed on the hardwood floor.

She started laughing and told us her mother had moved the furniture in her room around!

That is such a great idea! When I was little, I'd say there were monsters under my bed. Mom would ask, "What color monsters?" and I'd always say purple. She'd respond, "Purple monsters are my favorite!"
